Challenge: Movies were not easily accessible to spectators unable to attend in-person screenings. We needed to bring the films to a wider audience. We discovered a white-label OTT platform that allowed us to create an online festival for African movies under our own brand.
I designed and produced the OAFF (Online African Film Festival) in 2018 in France with a unique concept: 30 days, 30 films from Africa and its diasporas, available online. To gather an audience and launch the event, we organized 10 screenings across multiple cities and countries: Paris, London, Accra, Brussels, Cairo, Oakland, Cali, Montreal, Abidjan, Lagos, and Dakar.
- Management of multiple co-production partners to host screenings for Cinewax over the course of 14 days
- 3-month pre-production schedule for the event
- Production meetings, grant writing, event scheduling, and technical riders
- Negotiation of film rights and contracts (30 films) for non-commercial and VOD rights
- Validation and transfer of film DCP assets, promotional materials, prints, and marketing elements to theaters
- Set up and Management of SVOD OTT platform (OKAST) to stream movies online
- Management of a team of over 30 on-site volunteers across various countries
- Event production scheduling and management of program, artist coordination, guest lists, welcome desks, and ticketing for each event
