Client: Cinewax OAFF
Partner: Magine Pro
Date: October 2020 - November 2021
Areas of focus:
Challenge: After 3 editions of the OAFF (Online African Film Festival) from 2018 to 2020, and given the COVID-19 crisis preventing us from organizing physical screenings, I decided to launch a streaming platform dedicated to African and diaspora movies, available worldwide. Following a successful crowdfunding campaign in August 2020, this became by far the most challenging project of my life.
Mentoring: I met with two influential figures: Marc Barnett, the former Executive Director of IFLIX (who sold the company for $300M) and was willing to join our board, and Kenneth Legesi, an esteemed investor at Ortus Africa Capital. Both provided valuable guidance on our investment strategy and content acquisition approach.
My responsibilities spanned marketing, distribution, operations, and customer service—all while leading a team of 50.
Creation and management of a successful kickstarter campaign: 39.000€ collected from 688 backers
Created an upload workflow for film assets and developed internal training guides
Created and managed a full in-house customer service team
Recruited and trained 50 volunteers across teams including programming, film acquisitions, customer service, translation, and media
